Frequently Asked Questions

Essentially, phthalates are man-made chemicals that are used to soften plastic and manipulate several of its different properties. They are typically used in candles to help the chemical fragrance bond with (petroleum based) paraffin wax. To read more about pthalates and how they could be harmful, read our blog post here.

Paraffin wax is a manmade petroleum by-product that is most widely used in the global candle market. It is inexpensive and easy to come by, and adheres well with chemical fragrances, which makes it an obvious choice for many companies. However, research is beginning to show that the effects of burning paraffin wax candles in your home (especially frequently, and over long periods of time) is bad for your health. To us, all of this seems questionable, in the least. That is why we decided to use a natural alternative, and the results speak for themselves!

Yes, they do. As much as we would love to have a soy-free coconut candle wax, unfortunately there are no blends available that do not have some small amount of soy in them. Coconut wax is naturally very soft (think coconut oil!) and it needs a stabilizer. That's why we love our blend with beeswax! However, if you are allergic to soy, we highly recommend pure beeswax candles as a clean-burning alternative. We hope to supply these in the future, so be sure to check back!

We don't specifically use a straight essential oil blend for our candles. In doing our research, we found that putting undiluted essential oils into candles can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing! When an oil burns, its properties are changed, and some essential oils can become volatile. Besides that, they don't always give off a pleasant smell when they burn, like they do on their own! It also takes a much larger amount of oil to scent a candle, which we find unsustainable.

Although essential oils are typically the most organic, clean oil available, they just aren't suited well for candles on their own, and could be dangerous if used incorrectly. That's why we decided to go with oils that are formulated specifically for use in candles. We carefully select each oil and make sure they meet our high standards for safety and clean ingredients!

Not all organic ingredients are safe, and not all synthetic ingredients are bad. Everything in moderation :)

As we love to say, ingredients truly matter in the quality of a candle. Cheaper ingredients equals a cheaper candle. We use the highest quality ingredients in our products that are safer for you and your space! However, we have found that not only is it worth it for your health, but our candles typically last 2x longer than store-bought paraffin candles of the same size. So really, its better bang for your buck (and your health)!

Great question! Coconut wax is made from the meat of the coconut, and is the most sustainable option for natural wax available on the market today. And no, surprisingly, it does not smell like coconuts!
